Manama, Bahrain: Beyon Solutions, part of the Beyon Group, announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire a controlling stake in Link Development, a leading regional provider of software solutions for digital transformation, with operations in Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and UAE.

The deal was signed by Beyon Group CEO and Beyon Solutions Chairman Mikkel Vinter, Karim Beshara, Managing Partner of A15, a major shareholder of Link Development, and Link Development CEO Hesham El Beih. Telenutrition has approached Beyon Solutions to host their website on Amazon Web Services. One of their main concerns was the security of their environment and the controls in place to protect their data. Telenutrition needs to protect and encrypt their data at rest and in transit because they will have a lot of personal information from their customers.

To meet Telenutrition requirements and concerns, Beyon Solutions has implemented the following AWS services and features.

Protect data in Transit

Implement secure key and certificate management: Store encryption keys and certificates securely and rotate them at appropriate time intervals while applying strict access control; for example, by using a certificate management service, such as AWS Certificate Manager (ACM).

Enforce encryption in transit: Enforce your defined encryption requirements based on appropriate standards and recommendations to help you meet your organizational, legal, and compliance requirements.

Automate detection of unintended data access: Use tools such as GuardDuty to automatically detect attempts to move data outside of defined boundaries based on data classification level, for example, to detect a trojan that is copying data to an unknown or untrusted network using the DNS protocol.

Authenticate network communications: Verify the identity of communications by using protocols that support authentication, such as Transport Layer Security (TLS) or IPsec.

Security at Rest

AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS): AWS KMS used to encrypt data across AWS workloads, digitally sign data, encrypt within applications using AWS Encryption SDK.

AWS KMS will protect Telenutrition’s data in EC2 and S3 at rest by enabling server-side encryption using KMS Keys that Telenutrition will control and manage, as well Telenutrition will be able to encrypt and decrypt their own data using AWS KMS key.

Telenutrition have the option to use an AWS-managed customer master key (CMK) or manage and set policies for their own keys using AWS KMS, including key rotation and access.

Security Exploits Prevention

When application is up and running there are common security exploits (e.g. OWASP’s top ten) that can be used to degrade the performance of your application, compromise the functionality, or destroy data. Untrusted network traffic, distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks, and other common web application security exploits should be prevented before reaching application layer.

The following AWS services Beyon Solutions has been implemented to help in preventing and mitigating security attacks to Telenutrition AWS infrastructure, before they reach their back-end servers:

AWS Shield: AWS Shield automatically scrub bad traffic at specific layers that will Protect applications and website against DDOS attacks

Web Application Firewall (WAF): WAF will prevent common security exploits against Telenutrition website, and will block any suspicious access to specific paths in the website and will block any effort to pull data from admins and critical paths.

Security Groups: A security group controls the traffic that is allowed to reach and leave the resources that it is associated with. Beyon Solutions has gathered the IP address of Telenutrition admins to give them needed access to the resources to manage it like SSH, RDP and database port. And restricted all the malicious ports from accessing to the resources and stayed with HTTP and HTTPS ports only. So Telenutrition will event any attacker from identify the running application that uses opened and unused port and harm the environment.

AWS Database Services: Finding the Right Database for You

AWS provides the broadest selection of purpose-built databases allowing you to save, grow, and innovate faster.

Beyon Solutions has recommended that Flexsell use Amazon RDS as its managed relational database service, which provides Flexsell with familiar database engines to choose from, because Amazon RDS can handle routine database tasks such as patching, backups and recovery, provisioning, failure detection and repair.

Flexsell is a startup with no large IT team or database administrators.

Amazon RDS features was the reason behand going with AWS managed services other than using EC2 instance as database, these features that has convinced and benefited the customer are:

Lower administrative liability: as Flexsell is a startup company, Amazon RDS was easy to use as its pre- configured and can be accessed by AWS RDS CLI or API Calls and connect Flexsell application within minutes. And amazon RDS can update the software patching automatically,
Scalability: Amazon RDS can be scale up or down the compute and memory resources with just of push of buttons and can be upgraded or downgraded. As well Amazon RDS storage scaling is on-the-fly with zero downtime.
Security: Amazon RDS provide Encryption at rest and in transit, Amazon RDS allows Flexsell IT Team to encrypt their databases using keys that they can manage through AWS KMS. data stored at rest will be encrypted the backups and snapshots as well.
Availability and durability: Amazon RDS can automatically take Backup that enable point-in-time recovery for Flexsell database. Also, Amazon RDS provide on demand snapshot backups, that considered as Full back up of the database that can be used to create new database RDS from it. As well as that, Amazon RDS Multi-AZ deployments provide enhanced availability and durability for Flexsell database that are automatically synchronous and replicate to the standby instance in a different Availability Zone. And in the event of a hardware failure Flexsell IT Team will not need to interfere as Amazon RDS will automatically replace the compute instance to a healthy host.
Manageability: Flexsell can benefit from Amazon CloudWatch metrics for their Amazon RDS database instances at no additional charge to view crucial operational metrics, including compute, storage and memory capacity utilization, and instance connections. Also by using Amazon SNS for notifications Amazon RDS can notify Flexsell and Beyon Solutions through email or SMS text message of any database events.

Lambda falls under “Compute” service in AWS . Lambda automatically runs our code without requiring us to provision or manage servers. We just need to write the code and upload it to the Lambda Function.

Although you might be used to writing statefully in these languages, you do have to remember that Lambdas are stateless. They just run your function once, then dispose of everything
You can write them in different languages, you can connect several AWS components together, and you only pay for what you use—all without managing any infrastructure.

EventBridge is a serverless event bus that lets you receive, filter, transform, route, and deliver events. One of the Features of EventBridge that Beyon Solution utilize is “Scheduled events” Beyon Solutions will set up scheduled events using Unix cron syntax. Scheduled events are generated on a periodic basis and invoke any of the supported target AWS services.
